“We offer pragmatic advice in a commercial world, not just by-the-book legal advice.” Mark Osgood, Partner
We have a wealth of experience serving the marine industry, individual yachtsmen and their insurers. Combining a professional, practical approach with a realistic and commercial understanding, we advise on issues such as:
- Yacht sale, purchase, new build and repair contracts and registration
- Marine mortgages and finance including VAT issues
- Yacht charter
- Marine insurance
- Employment
- Commercial agreements and disputes
- Yacht arrest
- Collision, salvage and personal injury
- Marine regulation including health and safety; trading standards
- Dealings with authorities such as HM Revenue and Customs, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the Marine Accident Investigation Branch and the Police.
The British Marine Federation has launched a dispute resolution scheme intended to reduce the number of marine related disputes turning into expensive court battles. In mediation, parties are helped by an independent person to reach an agreement which suits both sides. Even if it first appears impossible that there could be an amicable settlement, mediation often results in a successful, less expensive outcome.
Our Marine and Dispute Resolution Teams are experienced in resolving marine related disputes in the quickest and most cost-effective way possible.
The firm is a member of the British Marine Federation and works closely with the Royal Yachting Association.
As of January 2007, all boats sold in the US need a US Recreational Craft Certificate. For further information, please contact Mark Osgood.
